The Incongruous Mediators

This article, written in a time when Kenya is trying to show the world its commitment to install viable state in Somalia (just at the start of the Imbagati Conference), delves deep into the way Kenyan Authorities treat, or more accurately, mistreat the Somalis doing business or whatever in their country. As 'the international safe' for the aid to Somalia, Kenya hosts the regional office of almost all the INGOs and UN agencies doing humanitarian and relief work in Somalia. Saeed's piece, first published in Somaliland Times, puts to the surface the grudges we share at the teashops.


It is believed that Kenya is hosting a conference of reconciliation for Somalis next month. Mediating neighbours is very noble deed but Kenya’s record of good neighborliness is bogus for so many good reasons. If Kenyan authorities are to be taken seriously, they need to mend their ways when it comes to how they treat their neighbours, the Somalis.

I have been browsing the net to view any documents written lately about Somaliland and Somalia. I soon stumbled over the ICG report, "Counter-Terrorism in Somalia: Lossing Hearts and Minds," (July 2005). To read it, just click at the title of this post.

Psychologists, even today, are arguing how much of our character comes from nature - that is the genetical and biological inplants - and how much of our behavior come from our nurture - the social environment that mold the way we think and act. My dad belongs to the latter part. Actually, he is not psychologist by schooling. His commonsense indicated to him that the latter was more sensible than the former. Neither am I a psychologist too. However, I also have some commonsense.

Children: A Neglected Promising Force for the Future

On the 16th June of every year, the international community celebrates for the Day of the African Child, in which the needs and problems of African children are addressed, past plans reviewed and a way forward illuminated. This year’s DAC coincides with a time when the ever widening gap between children in rich countries and those in Sub-Saharan Africa is at its peak. In this article, I will explore the situation of Somaliland children, who represent a potential vehicle for transformation and agents of change, in the wake of the world’s renewed commitment to promote the conditions of children in this continent.

The Dead Still Living

At the northern corner of Gandhi Library, Hargeisa, there sits a young man in his mid twenties with a literature book in his hands. He is reading an article in the book with his eyes open wide, his posture straight up and his face filled with all the enthusiasm one can demonstrate in this highly tamed environment. Occasionally, he takes his eyes off the book and looks up, which an unbiased observer may think, that he is accessing unreached territories in his brain and past memories which were subject to decay. Whenever he does this, he returns his eyes back to the book and smiles as if though he saw what he so direly longed to see.

Is Success Secret?

It was my friend's motto that success was never a secret. I recall the last time he condemned the reading of inspirational books, saying that, "You have all the theories inside you. All you need is to put that into practice. No more time to waste around."

After graduating from Amoud University, some of my friends asked me about the most important lessons I have learned during my schooling. Among other lesson, this included my response:

Creation

Dear Reader,
I have just created this site. Cool it looks! I have been thinking of what the first word to write about would be; then came the word creation. My intention in establishing this blog is to communicate to the outside world about my thought and inner feelings. I have chosen Wisdom as a title for my page. That is because I believe that wisdom lies within us. Us? Who are we by the way? You, the reader, and me, the writer. I don't like passive readers. I like those who challenge my thought and paradigms of thinking. That is when wisdom is compounded.
Then comes the URL of the blog. I carefully selected globalwise to reflect the fact that there is a global wisdom that is out there - awaiting us to discover and, of course, to appreciate. Human experience has been well documented in the past few centuries. This gives us the advantage of learning from their shortcomings and improving on that. It is also gives the amazing feat to enhance their strengths.
By the way, did I tell the clock is ticking 13:45 in my local time. Oops! My stomach is calling and I have to respond.
